Role Summary:
The Public Area Operative is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, presentation and overall appearance of
all public, communal and back-of-house areas within luxury residential developments. The role requires a
professional, discreet and service-focused approach, ensuring that residents, visitors and clients experience a
clean, safe and well-presented environment at all times.
Working in line with HME policies, site procedures and client requirements, the postholder will support high
standards of service delivery, respond promptly to cleaning requirements and report any maintenance, safety or
presentation concerns to the appropriate manager.
Key Responsibilities:
The postholder will be responsible for delivering excellent cleaning and presentation standards across assigned
public areas, including the following:
- Clean and maintain reception areas, lobbies, corridors, lifts, staircases, communal lounges, washrooms, changing areas and other allocated public spaces.
- Ensure all public areas are kept clean, tidy, safe and well presented throughout the shift.
- Carry out regular touch-point cleaning, including handles, lift buttons, railings, doors, switches and other high-use surfaces.
- Replenish consumables such as toilet rolls, hand towels, soap and other site supplies where required.
- Remove litter, empty bins and ensure waste areas are maintained in line with site standards and waste procedures.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, polish and carry out detailed cleaning tasks as required by the site cleaning schedule.
- Support cleaning of external entrances, pathways, terraces and immediate front-of-house areas where required.
- Report maintenance issues, hazards, spillages, damage or defects promptly to the management team.
- Use cleaning equipment, machinery and products safely, correctly and in line with training and manufacturer guidance.
- Provide a courteous, helpful and professional presence when interacting with residents, visitors, contractors and colleagues.
Communication:
Communicate clearly, professionally and courteously with residents, visitors, colleagues, contractors and management.
- Share relevant information with the management team promptly and accurately, including issues affecting cleaning
standards, access, safety or service delivery. - Support effective two-way communication across the site, including updates on resident requests, operational matters and any areas requiring attention.
